How to cut mosaic tiles
To cut mosaic tiles requires skill and patience. Are you tiling a surface with mosaic tiles and have you reached the edge of the surface? Then the last strip of mosaic tiles most likely needs to be cut to size to make them fit. Professional tilers will follow these steps:
- For the sheet of mosaic tiles, measure which straight sections you want to cut off. Mark these on the tiles, using a pencil or removable marker.
- Use a tile cutter or a diamond saw to cut the tiles to the right size. If using a tile cutter, place the tile in the cutter, cut the tile from top to bottom and push the lever down to cut the tile. With a diamond saw, carefully cut along the markings on the tile. Do this on a solid saw table or surface.
- Smooth the edges of the tiles you have cut using a sandpaper or diamond grinder.
- Glue the surface and place the tiles.
It is important to be careful when cutting the tiles and wear protective clothing and safety glasses to protect yourself from flying pieces of tile and dust. Also, don’t forget to wear hearing protection when cutting mosaic tiles with a (diamond) saw.
