Can I use mosaic tiles outdoor?

Mosaic can certainly be used outdoors. However, there are some things to consider when installing mosaic outdoors.

First, it is important to choose the type of mosaic. In principle, any type of mosaic from the TMF® range can be used outdoors. However, it is important to check whether the mosaic will be on the floor. In this case, mosaic tiles without a glaze and with a high slip-resistance value are best, such as the London collection or the matt Kasba squares. Mosaic without a glaze layer is most suitable because then there is no glaze layer that can disappear due to wear and tear from foot traffic. Thus, with proper maintenance, the colour of the tiles remains the same. A high anti-slip rating is important so that the risk of slipperiness, slipping and therefore accidents is lower than with a smooth mosaic tile.

Besides the type of mosaic, it is very important that the surface is solid. This applies mainly to floors because people walk on them, but of course also to walls and other surfaces. The substrate should not sink or break upon impact.

Finally, it is very important that the mosaic will last for years after application. Therefore, it is important to choose the right grout so that dirt cannot get between the mosaic tiles and maintenance is easier. For this purpose, The Mosaic Factory always recommends an epoxy grout. This seals the grout completely, is smooth so dirt cannot get into small holes and is resistant to water and mould.
